Born and raised in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire Virginia is constantly being pulled back to the land that was worked by her family over many generations.

 

The moors here are littered with evidence of past industries like mining and quarrying and Virginia sees the land as an archaeology of past lives. 

​

Over time, nature has reclaimed this land and her work seeks to remind how nature endures and provides an optimism for the future.

 

Virginia builds the surface of the canvas using mixed media and often raw materials of the land to create an atmospheric 'sense of place'.
