Cwmorthin slate mine sits in a hanging valley near Blenau Ffestiniog, in Snowdonia.
The area is littered with clues about past industrial activity in this area. Orderly hills of rejected slate blend with natural hills and the ruins of buildings associated with the mining are gradually being reclaimed by nature.

Now a place of calm and solitude, the work encourages a contemplation of how man shaped this land but how nature endures.
Slate dust is incorporated into the paintings to create texture but also to remind the viewer of our rich industrial heritage.
